My first show at Schaeffer was Stephen Stills who I had the opportunity to play with in 1978. For those of you who do not remember, Schaeffer was the one beer to have when you were having more than one!

My first memory of Jimi Hendrix was when I was about 10 years old and at summer sleep-away camp. I brought along a portable record player and my collection of 45's to keep me going through the summer. By the second day an older camper spotted me with it and asked to borrow it. Mostly out of fear of being beaten up I said "OK". At the end of the month when it was time to go home I realized I had better go and retrieve it or it would be lost forever. I found my way to his cabin, walked in and found him sitting on the edge of his bed with a guitar and Purple Haze playing on my record player. He was learning to play the song. I was impressed. He turned out to be harmless and gladly gave it back to me. A few years later I started playing bass and my fellow bandmates were all heavily into Jimi's music so we learned lots of his songs...Little Wing, All Along The Watchtower, Message Of Love, Fire, Voodoo Child, Beginnings, Angel, In From The Storm, Changes and many more. Still till this day I listen to that same music and it sounds new, fresh and exciting to me. It is timeless!!!
A few years ago I had the pleasure of meeting Billy Cox and Eddie Kramer and they autographed Band Of Gypsys for me. I will always regret not seeing Jimi in concert but unfortunately I was a couple years too young.
Thanks for posting this.
