1960′s TV Commercials

December 21st, 2009 by David Gross | 0

The sixties were defined by television. Most of us spent inordinate amounts of time watching the boob tube. Advertisers knew this, hired psychologists to poll our behaviors and created an advertising frenzy! It dawned on me that TV commercials played a big part of our lives. We were the boomers! The most consuming group ever! From toys to detergents, cigarettes to cars, we lived in a wonderful time of creativity, discovery and commerce! Perhaps you will join me as we go back in time to a “purported simpler time.”

This has been the 9th week that Talkin About My Generation has been in operation. I want to thank all of you for taking the time to read, comment, and support this endeavor of mine.

I remember back in 1967, my sister Denyse gave me “The Who Sell Out” and “Magical Mystery Tour” which to this day is my favorite Beatles LP! I played it to death! As a young bass player, I thought Hello Goodbye had the most perfect bassline. I still do

Lastly, I want to wish each and every one of you a Merry Christmas and a Happy Hanukkah!

I remember a few quotes that really bring this season to mind

To the American People: Christmas is not a time or a season but a state of mind. To cherish peace and good will, to be plenteous in mercy, is to have the real spirit of Christmas. If we think on these things, there will be born in us a Savior and over us will shine a star sending its gleam of hope to the world.”
~ Calvin Coolidge (1872-1933), American president. Presidential message (December 25, 1927).

I will honour Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year.”
~ Scrooge

There’s nothing sadder in this world than to awake Christmas morning and not be a child.”
~ Erma Bombeck (1927-1996), American author and humorist

One of the most glorious messes in the world is the mess created in the living room on Christmas day. Don’t clean it up too quickly.”
~ Andy Rooney (1919-), American writer, producer, humorist.
